How to Say NO to Selfish People
Sometimes good people have a hard time saying no for whatever reason, so I hope this article helps to give that person the strength to say no to selfish people.

Step 1. Take Yourself Seriously.
If you don’t take yourself seriously, no one else will either. You have the right to say no to any request that puts you at a disadvantage. If the request makes you feel uncomfortable or unappreciated you do not have to say yes. By taking yourself seriously, you give yourself the power needed to say no and mean it. For example, a neighbor has five young boys. A friend of her has four boys and a girl. She has to go out of town for a week and asked her neighbor to watch her kids while she was gone. This totals ten kids, nine boys and the girl, and now her neighbor is regretting saying no. You can image the chaos.

Step 2. Be Polite but Firm.
Mary says “I have to do something in the morning can you watch my kids until I get back?” What Mary didn’t know was that you haven’t done anything for yourself all month because you have been so busy doing things for other people that you finally got a break and you planned to go to the spa. You even set the appointment. This is when you be polite but firm and you say something like “not tomorrow, I have plans of my own and I have no intentions on breaking them.” You will probably be met with some insistence but be firm and good people will understand and not hold that against you. Others will pull the guilt trip or some other manipulative trick to get you to say yes against your will. BE FIRM.

Step 3. Be Quiet.
This will work 100 percent of the time. It will also show you who your true friends really are. After you say no, say nothing. Don’t react, don’t argue, don’t say anything. It may sound mean but in this case, silence is gold. By not responding, it causes your adversary (for lack of a better word) to begin to look at you differently. At this point they are now reading you non-verbal communication, your body language to see if you are serious. By not responding, they can't take what you said the wrong way. Why? Because you didn’t say anything other then no.

Step 4. Be Guilt Free.
You can say no to anything you want. Whether it’s you family pressuring you to go to school to loaning money to someone who you know wont pay you back or anything in between. As long as you know that sometimes, it okay to say no. You should never feel guilty for saying no when you have weighed the options and the outcome benefits everyone but you. It is not wrong to say no. So if you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to feel guilty about.

Tips & Warnings!
You are the best person to say what’s best for you. Other people may not know how they are affecting you. Often times, you may not tell them for whatever reason. But know that if you say no to people who expect you to say yes all the time, these same people will not be happy with the new you. Just remember the key to your happiness is you.

Hope this helps. =)
